FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
Please see the insurance page for specific details. Nutrition and behavioral health counseling services are covered differently depending on which insurance carrier. I will always provide a superbill for out of network reimbursement.
WHAT TYPE OF APPOINTMENTS ARE AVAILABLE?
Sometimes you just can’t make it to the office because of work, kids, travel or you just live too far away. All of the appointments can be in-person, virtual telehealth online (secure HIPPA compliant video visits via the computer or mobile device), or on the phone.
CAN I BRING MY CHILD TO MY APPOINTMENT?
If you feel your session time can be as open and productive with your children in the room, I welcome them. I have a few toys available for younger kids and I have a comfortable waiting room for older kids who may prefer to wait outside for you. Since my office space is also utilized by other healthcare professionals, I just ask that you be responsible for keeping your children calm and quiet during your session so as not to disturb others. Please let me know in advance if you plan to bring any children.
DO YOU OFFER A SLIDING SCALE?
I strive to set my prices to be available to all clients without requiring income qualifications. If you truly cannot afford regular service rates, please inquire about a reduced rate before booking your appointment. I can work with you on scheduling payment options.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY INITIAL NUTRITION CONSULTATION?
For your first visit, whether it is at my office, virtual telehealth or phone, I will be reviewing your completed medical forms (accessible via a secure HIPAA-compliant web-based patient portal), current food intake, medical history, health concerns, dietary supplement use and your desired health outcomes. Together we will devise a plan for moving forward. While specific recommendations and directives may be given at your first appointment, our initial consultation is typically an interview style appointment.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY INITAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONSULTATION?
This visit is up to 90 minutes and involves a detailed, holistic review of your presenting concerns. Together we will devise a plan for moving forward. While specific recommendations and directives may be given at your first appointment, our initial consultation is typically an interview style appointment.
DO YOU COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER HEALTHCARE PRACTITIONERS I AM CURRENTLY WORKING WITH TO COORDINATE CARE?
I am a firm believer in interdisciplinary healthcare. If you feel it will be helpful to your goals, I will communicate with any current providers with your permission.
DO YOU REQUIRE THAT I SEE YOU FOR A NUMBER OF VISITS OR CAN I JUST SEE YOU ONCE?
While the research and professional experience has shown me that people are much more successful when they have regular follow ups with their dietitian or counselor, I do not lock you into any set number of follow up visits. If you feel your needs can be met with just one appointment, I will do my best to accommodate this. Please note, the more complex your situation is, or the more detailed your health and nutrition plan needs to be, the more difficult it becomes to fit everything into a sole appointment. Clients are advised that one meeting is usually not sufficient for an adequate intervention.
